Our D-history:

My daughter, *Rosie, was five years old when she was diagnosed on September 19, 2008, with Type I Diabetes. We started out on MDI, but in October 2010 we switched to a pump. We also added a Dexcom CGM in May of 2011. In February 2014 we changed to the Medtronic Enlite system- a pump and CGM all in one.

*Rosie is not her real name... I let her pick her own pseudonym for the blog!

Resting and Reading up on Paula

While I'm resting up and dealing with my own health problems, I can't help but read up on Paula Deen.  Seriously... have you Googled her in the last few days?  Everyone with access to a computer seems to have something to say about her, and most of it is not flattering.

Ms Deen has always been one of my favorites on the cooking channel, and I have been watching with interest as all sides have weighed in on the issue of her announcing her Type II diagnosis.   Personally, I couldn't have said it better than Kerri @ Six Until Me, who reminds us, "If doughnuts end up on my plate, it's not because Paula Deen put them there and then crammed them into my mouth."    Amen!

Paula Deen didn't make anyone eat her way, and last time I checked, her favorite ingredient-- butter-- didn't cause any type of diabetes.  She didn't announce her diagnosis when it happened, but so what?  Not everyone shares their diagnosis in real life, so why should a celebrity be any different?  Her health issues are her business.  Her recipes are something we can choose to eat or not- we certainly can't blame her for our own health choices.

I hope that the media circus around this dies down quickly, so that we can all get back to the business of supporting one another in the diabetic community.

Happy New Year!

Whew!  It's been a while, but I'm still here, still fighting the d-monster with my daughter every day.

I've been off-line with my d-fight since sometime in November.  I think I burned myself out, trying to blog daily for a while there.  That happens every few months, and I just avoid all the forums and blogs for a while, then eventually I feel a pull to start reading and talking to people again.

Here's hoping that your 2012 is full of great numbers!
